Schaffler and Wooster’s Global Economy

Since Rubbermaid exited in the 1990s, Schaffler North America has been one of Wayne County’s largest employers. 1“Top Employers” Schaffler makes automotive and aerospace parts for several German automotive companies, including LuK, Fischers Aktiengesellschaft, and INA. 2Wooster Chamber of Commerce The LuK Wooster plant was created in 1977, and quickly expanded by 50% in 1979, and expanded again in 1985 and 2016. In 1994, Wooster’s chamber of commerce honored LuK with their Business of the Year Award because of their prominence as an employer in Wooster, and the fact that the company supplied over 50% of all transmissions to major car manufacturers. They then won the award again in 2018, making them the first company in Wooster to be recognized twice by the Chamber of Commerce. 3“History”, Schaffler Group USA, inc., 2019 Since the Schaffler group arrived in Wooster, hey have created parts that are shipped to factories all over the world, and the Wooster plant has been chosen multiple times over the years to be the first plant to produce new and innovative parts. LuK employs thousands of Wooster residents 4“LuK USA looking forward to bright future in Wooster” Wooster Daily Record, May 30, 2014, and encourages careers in STEM by hosting internships and career fairs for local students. 5Wooster Daily Record, “Schaffler to Host Career Fair in Wooster”, November 12, 2019
