Creek Nation at the College of Wooster

After the last Indian tribe was removed from Ohio in 1847, a new chapter began as some male Mvskoke (or Creek) Indians came to study at the University of Wooster in 1877. The Mvskoke nation held a “youth in the nations” program, which sent their students all over the US to study in universities, and some came to Wooster. The University was pleased to have them as students, describing them as “young, intelligent men”. The four students spent their time at Wooster and went back home to contribute to the nation.

One of them was William Sapulpa, who held several jobs after coming back, entered politics, and opened a boarding school for the tribal community. (Alexander-Starr)
