This history of Wooster is a virtual exhibit, but it is intimately tied to the land that is today the site of Wooster, Ohio and Wayne County. We acknowledge this land and recognize those who lived and worked here before us. This place was the home of pre-contact communities including the Hopewell, Adena, and Fort Ancient Cultures. It was the home of the Lenape (Delaware), Shawnee, Wyandot, and other Great Lakes tribes. We recognize their stewardship of these lands. And we acknowledge the many Native Americans and their descendants who continue to live in this region of Ohio.
